What Is the Difference Between a Stepped Grate and a Vertical Small Waste Incinerator?
Stepped grates and vertical small waste incinerators are two different types of combustion equipment; they differ in structure and design, working principle, applicable scale and investment setup.
Structural zones of the stepped grate
The municipal solid waste incinerator grate we supply is a stepped inclined reciprocating grate that pushes waste downward, divided into three zones: drying, combustion and burn-out. The zones sit at different heights, so waste spreads out as it falls and is pushed along, while piling up that would lead to incomplete combustion is avoided. The grate is made of heat-resistant cast steel and resists wear, high temperature and corrosion.
Hydraulic drive and independent control of the three zones
The stepped grate is driven by hydraulic cylinders, and the three grate sections can be controlled independently. During operation the grate movement cycle can be adjusted according to combustion conditions inside the furnace.

Two waste treatment projects
| Project | Location | Capacity | Equipment | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Municipal solid waste incineration project | Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam | 70 tons/day | Three-zone inclined reciprocating grate incinerator | In production, expected to enter service in 12/2024 |
| Rural and pastoral area living environment improvement project (Tsinghua University) | Zhengxiangbai Banner | 30 tons/day | Inclined reciprocating coal feeder | Under construction, expected to enter service in 11/2024 |
Points to weigh when selecting
Choosing between the two types depends on waste treatment needs, site space limits, investment budget and environmental requirements. The vertical small waste incinerator is a vertical design with a smaller treatment capacity; the stepped grate pushes waste through drying, combustion and burn-out zones and suits incineration lines sized to a daily throughput. The specific type and parameters need to be confirmed against project conditions.
