We supplied a custom 6-ton chain grate to a Jiangsu client

In a chain belt grate, the grate surface is the chain belt itself: the chain is driven by sprockets so that the grate bars travel slowly. The grate bars are usually made of cast iron, and after assembly a necessary ventilation gap is kept between adjacent bars. Separated air chambers with adjustable air volume are often also provided below the grate so that air can pass through the gaps into the fuel bed for combustion. Coal falls evenly from the coal hopper at the front end of the grate onto the grate surface. The thickness of the coal bed is regulated by a coal gate that can be raised and lowered. As the grate moves backward, the coal passes through ignition, combustion and finally burnout. The spent ash and slag are removed manually or mechanically. There is also an arrangement that does not use a coal hopper for feeding: instead, a spreader feeds the coal onto the rear of the grate while the grate moves forward. The grate speed is regulated by a gear transmission according to the coal type and the boiler load.
