The partner factory built a custom 6-ton chain grate for a Jiangsu client

In a chain belt grate the grate surface is the chain belt itself; the chains are driven by sprockets so that the grate bars travel slowly. The grate bars are usually made of cast iron, and after assembly the necessary ventilation gaps are kept between the bars; moreover, partitioned air chambers with adjustable air volume are often arranged below the grate, so that air passes through the gaps into the fuel bed for combustion. Coal falls evenly from the coal hopper at the front end of the grate onto the grate. The thickness of the coal bed is adjusted by raising and lowering a coal gate.

As the grate moves backward, the coal passes from ignition and combustion through to complete burnout. The ash and slag left after burnout are discharged manually or mechanically. There is also a mode in which no coal hopper is used for coal feeding; instead a spreader stoker throws the coal onto the rear part of the grate while the grate moves forward. The grate speed is adjusted by a gear transmission according to the type of coal and the boiler load.
