In a chain-type grate, the grate surface is the chain belt itself: a sprocket drives the chain and the grate bars travel slowly forward.

Chain grate product introduction

The grate bars are usually made of cast iron, and after assembly the necessary ventilation gaps are kept between bar and bar. Separate air compartments with adjustable air volume are often arranged under the grate, so that air passes through the gaps into the fuel bed for combustion.

Coal feed and operation control

Coal falls evenly from the hopper at the front end of the grate onto the grate surface, and the thickness of the coal bed is adjusted by raising and lowering a coal gate. As the grate moves towards the rear, the coal passes through ignition and combustion until it burns out, and the ash is discharged by manual or mechanical means.

There is also a version without a coal hopper, in which a spreader stoker throws the coal to the rear of the grate and the grate moves forward. Grate speed is adjusted through a gear transmission according to the coal type and the boiler load.
