Side seals are fitted on both sides of a chain grate to stop air leaking along the side walls. We supply side seals in cast iron and in alloy steel, matched to the grate model.
Reducing leakage at the side walls
There is a gap between each side of the chain and the furnace wall, and the side seals close that ring of gaps so less cold air reaches the combustion zone from the sides. They work in high temperature and wear all the time, so they are a routine replacement part, usually checked together with the grate plates and pins.
Material and temperature
Side seals work in the gaps at both sides; cooler positions use cast iron, and positions near the hot zone use heat-resistant alloy.
| Material | Characteristics | Grades and heat resistance |
|---|---|---|
| Cast iron | Simple to cast, low cost | HT200 480℃, HT250 520℃ |
| Heat-resistant alloy | Good oxidation resistance and dimensional stability | RTCr2 600℃ to RTCr16 900℃ |
These parts are supplied to the NB/T 47050-2016 technical standard, and both material and dimensions can be customised to customer requirements.
Quotation
Please send the grate model, a drawing or the dimensions of the old part. We confirm material and quantity from that and arrange shipment from the partner factory; grate plates, rollers, chain wheels and other parts can be supplied at the same time.
